About College

Foundations and Academic Inception (1982–1983):
The institution's academic journey began in 1982 with the conduct of the first-ever entrance examination for the Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS). This pioneer batch commenced theory classes in 1983 at the Pattom Thanupillai Memorial Govt. District Homoeo Hospital in East Fort, which served as the college’s initial Office and Hospital. During these early years, while theory was taught at East Fort, anatomy dissections were conducted at a separate building in Iranimuttom. Dr. K. J. Issac served as the first Principal of the college, providing foundational leadership during this formative period.
Campus Consolidation and Infrastructure (1991–1997):
In 1991, the college reached a definitive milestone by completely shifting all operations to its current 11-acre campus in Manacaud village, Iranimuttom. Clinical training reached a new height in 1997 with the opening of the dedicated College Hospital at the Iranimuttom site. This facility, established with a 100-bed strength, remains a vital healthcare hub for the region.
Evolution of Academic Programs
The college has consistently expanded its curriculum to standardize and advance homeopathic education:
The BHMS Degree: Initially affiliated with the University of Keralam and approved by the Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH), the affiliation shifted to the Keralam University of Health Sciences (KUHS) in 2010. Today, it is recognized by the National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH).
The Graded Degree Course: In 1991, a two-year Graded Degree (BHMS) course was introduced to improve the standards of existing diploma holders. Fifty students were admitted annually until the course was discontinued in 1995–96.
Postgraduate Excellence: The college launched MD(Hom) courses in Materia Medica and Organon of Medicine and Homoeopathic Philosophy (1994–95), later adding Repertory (1996) and Practice of Medicine (2018).
Paramedical Training: The Nurse cum Pharmacist (NCP) course (1986–2010) was restructured into the 1-year Certificate Course in Pharmacy (Homoeo) [CCP(H)] in 2015.
Governance and Administrative Leadership
The college is owned by the Government of Keralam and governed by the Department of AYUSH. It holds a unique administrative position in the state:
The Controlling Office: The Principal of GHMCT serves as the Controlling Officer for Homoeopathic Medical Education in Keralam.
Jurisdiction: This office oversees five colleges in total: two Government colleges and three Aided colleges.
Current Leadership: Dr. T. K. Vijayan currently serves as the Principal and Controlling Officer.
Modern Expansion
The most recent infrastructure development is the Pharmacy College building, inaugurated in 2021 and fully functional in 2024. This modern facility hosts the CCP(H) course, the Junior BHMS (Batch I) classes, and the Medical Education Technology Unit (METU).
